The Achology Code of Ethics

The purpose of this Code of Ethics is to provide Achology members with a comprehensive set of ethical guidelines and best practices to uphold in their professional conduct. These standards aim to ensure consistency, integrity, and excellence in their day-to-day interactions and work.

Moral and Ethical Standards in Context

Ethical standards are the principles that help people make morally excellent decisions within their chosen profession, mitigate conflicts, and preserve the trust bestowed upon them by others. By upholding these standards, Achologists cultivate personal integrity, sincerity and trustworthiness, traits that are essential for fostering robust relationships and maintaining a positive reputation.

The Achology code of ethics is rooted in character-based morality and human virtue. While this is not common practice within the psychological industry, Achology encourages its members to follows Aristotle’s ancient teachings, emphasizing the practice of  honesty, sincerity, integrity and genuineness as a way to develop strong moral character and make ethical decisions.

Origins of Ethical Standards and Conduct

Ethical standards have been ingrained in human civilization for millennia. Ancient civilizations, legal codes and religious texts provide us with the earliest recorded instances of ethical standards. As societies progressed, ethical standards evolved, shaped by the contributions of philosophers. Their insights have led to the development of ethical principles that continue to guide us today.

The Achology Code of Ethics promotes the unwavering practice of integrity among its members. By upholding this code of conduct, members can safeguard the trust others place in them, cultivate positive relationships, and make judicious ethical choices. Ultimately, this code of ethics empowers Achology members to excel as professionals and responsible citizens throughout society.

“Being virtuous is more than having a particular habit of acting, e.g. generosity. Rather, it means having a fundamental set of related virtues that enable a person to live, act and conduct themselves morally well.”

James F Keenan, Proposing Cardinal Virtues, 1995
