How Present is Your Past?

"Have you ever heard it said: forget the past, don’t worry about the future, just live in the present?” There is a certain element of truth in this statement. Many of us live our lives defined by the choices we've made in the past. However, this shouldn’t be the case. Each new day we have an opportunity to become a new person, on a new path, and destined for a new future. Yet individuals who choose to simply block out the past, end up missing out on their fullest potential. In this session we will practice choosing to ask the right questions about your past.

The Wise Mind Model

The “Wise Mind” is the balance between the reasonable mind and the emotional mind, it is the part of our minds when we recognise and respect our feelings, but are nevertheless able to respond to these rationally and maturely. The “Wise Mind” is that place where the reasonable mind and the emotional mind overlap, it's that part of our minds that every person has access to.

In this triad we will be going through an exercise where we will guide the client to experience their 'Wise Mind”. The purpose of this practice session is to learn how we can assist our clients to become aware in which mind frame they are operating, and how to create shifts in perspective.

Mastering the Art of Silence in Coaching

Within this session we will explore and unpack the practical application of SILENCE in a coaching session. During the session there will be a brief lecture followed by a demonstration on how to effectively utilize silence in a coaching session.

Locus of Control

The Principle of 'Locus of Control' was coined by Julian Rotter (1954). It considers the idea that people tend to either believe that they have control over their lives (internally, it is within their power) or someone or something else has control over their lives (externally, through others or the situation in which they find themselves). This is a spectrum and not always the same in all situations. In this practice session we will guide our clients to understand how they control their future through the choices they make, which ultimately can lead to success or failure. We look at their belief in their own ability to change things and how this can lead to increased self-confidence. We will guide the client to look for information that will help them to influence people and situations.

community driven training

Life Story - Past, Present & Future

During this triad, we practice how we, as the coach will ask your client to share a life story in three parts: the past, present and future. In mindfulness coaching, life stories can be used to help clients develop a sense of meaning, which has often been found to contribute towards deeper fulfilment and inner peace.

We allow the client time to be creative, and as the coach, you will help to guide their thinking and encourage them to reflect upon their personal strengths in each of the phases of their life.

Discerning Assets & Liabilities

Assets add to our lives, whereby liabilities can come at a cost to us. Wise people invest into assets. For this purpose, we define an “asset” as someone or something that is useful or valuable to us, whereby a “liability” is someone or something that is likely to put us at a disadvantage. In this session, we will guide the client to discover the assets and liabilities in their lives.

Explain Yourself!

So often, we can become so engrossed in the busyness of daily life that we fail to appreciate the simple things. One of the primary reasons why we fail to appreciate the simple things is because we don't take the time to notice, observe, consider and just experience them. Particularly in the Western culture, many people are experiencing their daily life’s activities as being “in the fast lane”, spending more time concerned with what is the next task that needs to be addressed, rather than spending any time at all to appreciate the day and the simple things that often get taken for granted. In this practice session we practice slowing down.

Making Choices: Needs vs. Wants

Part of life is being able to strike a healthy balance between our needs and our wants. It’s also about focusing on what we consider to be truly important. In this practice triad we will take our clients through an exercise that is a great tool for helping them to gain short term perspective in regards to better appreciating the difference between their needs and their wants. Once you launch yourself as a mindfulness practitioner, you'll also be surprised at how many people don't even know that there is a difference between the two.
