What Can I Actually Do After Completing Achology Courses?

Estimated reading time: 4 minutes

Achology course outcomes depend on how far you progress through the CPD member journey, not just whether you finished a course. You build skills in coaching, mentoring, consulting, and skilled helping — within clear ethical and legal boundaries.

Short answer

  • You can apply practical psychology in your personal and professional life immediately.
  • As you progress through the CPD journey, you can coach, mentor, consult, instruct, and host workshops.
  • Achology defines these activities as “skilled helping” — the application of psychology in real-world contexts.
  • At senior levels, you deliver real coaching sessions (CIPS) with non-members facing genuine challenges.
  • Achology is also developing a future directory platform where qualified members will be able to promote their professional services. This is not yet available.
  • You cannot use regulated titles such as psychologist, counsellor, or psychotherapist. Achology does not grant those credentials.

The full answer

What “completing a course” actually means at Achology

First, an important distinction. Completing a single course is a starting point, not a finish line. Achology’s educational model treats course study as step one of three. Step two involves developing competence through the learning community. Step three involves delivering professional services.

Most of what makes Achology different happens in steps two and three. Consequently, “what you can do” expands as you progress — not when you press play on the final video.

Skills you develop across the journey

Achology’s curriculum spans multiple disciplines. These include coaching, mentoring, cognitive psychology, neuro-linguistic programming, mindfulness, and counselling techniques. The Code of Ethics defines the professional application of these skills as “skilled helping.”

In practical terms, this covers a broad range of activities. You might coach individuals through goal-setting. You might mentor someone navigating a career transition. You might consult with a small business on leadership communication. Alternatively, you might host a workshop on emotional intelligence or self-awareness. All of these fall within the scope of an Achology practitioner.

Additionally, every skill you develop has personal application. Many members report that the biggest initial benefit is how they communicate, lead, and relate to others in their existing roles — long before they offer services to paying clients.

What you can do at each level

The CPD member journey spans six levels. Your scope of activity grows at each stage:

  • Achology Member → Certified Achologist: You study your first practitioner course. You also participate in live training sessions (VALTS) and peer practice (PALS). At this stage, your focus is on absorbing and applying what you learn.
  • Achologist Adept → Senior Achologist (I): You begin hosting VALTS and delivering PALS sessions. You also facilitate workshops and start delivering CIPS — real one-to-one coaching sessions with non-members. This is where your practice shifts from learning to doing.
  • Senior Achologist (II) → Master Achologist: You accumulate significant practice hours across all formats. At this level, you demonstrate the competence, ethical grounding, and facilitation experience expected of a fully developed Achology practitioner.

Each level requires annual Code of Ethics training. This ensures your practice stays grounded in professional standards throughout.

What you cannot do

Achology is transparent about boundaries. Completing Achology courses — at any level — does not qualify you to:

  • Use the title psychologist, counsellor, psychotherapist, or any other regulated professional title
  • Diagnose mental health conditions or prescribe treatment
  • Provide clinical supervision
  • Claim equivalence with a university degree or postgraduate qualification

These are not arbitrary restrictions. They reflect the legal and ethical reality of professional regulation. Coaching, mentoring, and skilled helping occupy a different space from clinical practice. Achology trains you for that space specifically.

Furthermore, even within unregulated activities, the Code of Ethics requires you to work within your competence. If a client’s needs exceed your skill level, you must refer them onward. This is not optional — it is a core professional obligation.

What about earning money from your skills?

Achology’s three-step model describes the final stage as delivering professional services. Some members do this independently — building private coaching or mentoring practices. Your ability to earn from these skills depends on your own initiative. You need to build a client base, arrange insurance, set pricing, and handle the practical realities of self-employment. Achology builds the competence — the business is your responsibility.

In the meantime, your ability to earn from these skills depends on your own initiative. You need to build a client base, arrange insurance, set pricing, and handle the practical realities of self-employment. Achology builds the competence — the business side is your responsibility.

Boundaries and responsibility

Achology trains you to apply psychology in practical settings. It does not train you for clinical practice. If someone approaches you in crisis or presents symptoms of a mental health condition, your responsibility is to refer them to an appropriate professional. The Code of Ethics makes this obligation explicit. Skilled helping supports growth, development, and empowerment. It does not replace therapy, diagnosis, or medical treatment.
